Visitors are required to show photo identification upon arrival and must wear a visitor badge at all times while on the NIST campus.

Transportation

Boulder is located at the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains, about 70 km (43.5 miles) northwest of the Denver International Airport.

Transportation to and from Denver International Airport (DIA) is available by rental car, limousine shuttles, or bus. Most rental car companies have facilities at DIA. Round-trip and one-way limousine shuttle is available through Super Shuttle Boulder (Phone: 303-444-0808), leaving the airport every hour on the hour, arriving in approximately 70 minutes. The one-way fee is $19.

A regional bus service, the RTD, provides transportation between DIA and Boulder. Busses leave every hour between 6:20 a.m. 11:20 p.m. with the last bus leaving at 11:20 p.m. Trip time is about 90 minutes with a final stop at the Boulder bus station located at Thirteenth and Walnut Street in downtown Boulder. You will probably need to arrange for a taxi to your hotel from the bus station.

Directions from Denver International Airport via the New Toll Way (Northwest Parkway)
This route is much faster, with less traffic than the I-70 route listed below. Exit the airport via Pena Boulevard to E-470 and turn right. E-470 will turn into the Northwest Parkway. Take the Northwest Parkway west to U.S. Hwy 36. At the end of the Northwest Parkway, exit onto US Hwy 36 West to Boulder. The entire toll from the airport to the hotel is $5.25 The toll map is located here (leaves NIST web space).

To reach the hotel, stay on US-36 (this becomes 28th Street.) The hotel is located on the left hand side, 200 yards past the first traffic light.

Alternative Driving Directions from Denver International Airport
Exit airport via Pena Boulevard; Merge onto I-70 West to Denver. Take I-70 West to I-25 North, to US 36 West to Boulder. Once on US-36, it will be about a 20 minute drive to Boulder. As you enter Boulder, Highway 36 will turn into 28th street. The hotel is located on the left hand side, 200 yards past the first traffic light.

The Millennium Harvest House Hotel is approximately 1.5 miles away from NIST (about a 25 minute walk). Transportation to and from the hotel will not be provided, however the hotel does have a fee based shuttle service. You must make reservations with the hotel to use the shuttle service. An alternative to renting a car is to use the RTD bus. The Bound bus stop is two blocks from the hotel (30th Street and Arapahoe). The bus runs every 10 minutes during the morning and evening rush hours. It is scheduled to leave 30th and Arapahoe at 7:27 am, 7:37 am, 7:47 am, etc. and arrives at NIST about 10 minutes later. You can take the Bound to the 27th Way and Broadway stop (across the street from NIST) for $1.25 each way. Exact change is required. If you rent a car at the hotel in April, an advance reservation is usually not necessary. However, it is still prudent to check with the hotel in advance regarding availability.

Driving Directions from the Hotel to NIST
To reach the Department of Commerce conference facilities from the hotel, leave the hotel from the back-side (east) and exit right onto 29th Street to Baseline Road. Turn right onto Baseline road and merge into the far left lane to 27th Way. Turn left on 27th Way and follow across Broadway into the Department of Commerce/NIST facility. Parking is available in the visitor parking lot behind the main building (Building One). The short course will be located in the front meeting rooms of the main building.

Walking Directions from the Hotel to NIST
For those of you interested in walking, it is less than a one mile walk to the Department of Commerce campus. The hotel sits on a frontage road to 28th Street. Follow the frontage road south to Baseline Road. There is a pedestrian path that travels underneath Baseline Road. Continue on this across Baseline Road, then head west towards the mountains along the sidewalk. Turn left at 27th Way and follow across Broadway into the Department of Commerce/NIST facility.
